Helena Cvikl obtained her Master of Business Science at the Faculty of Economics, University of
Maribor, in 2000. She is the director of Vocational College for Catering and Tourism Maribor. In
addition to being active in several international associations that connect educational institutions
from hospitality industry, she also participates in international projects. Since 2002 she has been a
secretary-general of the Board of directors of EURHODIP (Association of the leading hospitality
schools, head office in Brussels) and its Vice-president since 2011. She was among the initiators of
the European quality label Eurhoqual, is a member of the European diplomas of EURHODIP, member
of the European board of COUPE GEORGES BAPTISTE with its head office in Paris, member of ALPINE
EUHOFA (European association of alpine hotel schools), member of the international association of
hospitality schools EUHOFA INTERNATIONAL, member of a committee preparing rules and
regulations for European competitions, member of the Executive Board and a Head Judge of
European competitions within AEHT (European association of hospitality and tourism schools, head
office in Luxembourg). Until 2011 she has participated in and lead over 30 Leonardo da Vinci and
Erasmus projects that have received 8 awards Apples of Quality, awarded by CMEPIUS, the national
agency for quality. In 2003 she received the award Central and Eastern European Ambassador by the
European association of the leading hospitality schools EURHODIP. In 2007 she became the Honorary
Professor of the Moscow Academy of Tourism.
She has been a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Tourism Studies in Portorose, University of Primorska,
since 1996 and is working part-time as a senior lecturer also at the University of Maribor. Helena
Cvikl is a professional in the field of quality, a licensed evaluator for the categorisation of
accommodation and restaurant facilities and she cooperates with the Ministry of Economy,
Development and Tourism through various projects from the field of tourism.
She participates at international conferences and has published many articles refering to the field of
tourism, quality, hotel industry and safety and security.
