MARKO MELE
Dr. Marko Mele Studied archaeology at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. As part of his doctoral studies, he worked as a DAAD research fellow at the Institute for Prehistoric Archaeology at the Free University of Berlin. He received his doctorate from the University of Ljubljana in 2009. He took his first position as an archaeologist in 2005 at the Ptuj-Ormoz Regional Museum. From 2007 to 2009 he was employed as an auditor of EU-projects in the Government Office of the Republic of Slovenia for Local Self-Government and Regional Policy. Since 2010 he has been working as chief curator for prehistory and early history at the Universalmuseum Joanneum. Since 2023 he is the scientific director of the Universalmuseum Joanneum. Over the last decade he has led several major EU-projects, including InterArch-Steiermark, Iron-Age-Danube and Danube’s Archaeological eLandscapes.
